Pruning & Focus

Cut until what's left is necessary. That's the work.

Pruning & Focus

The work is good when there's nothing left to take away. Adding is easy. Cutting is the job.

Default is bloat

Every project accumulates. Features, ideas, decoration. Left alone, it gets worse. Pruning is the counter-force.

How I cut

For every feature, every line, every element, three questions:

  • Does this serve the core intent?
  • Does removing it weaken the whole?
  • Is it good, or is it necessary?

Three things done perfectly beats ten things done okay. Always.

The master isn't the one with the most ideas. It's the one who threw the most away.
