Layered Identity

Traditional brand guidelines are rigid. They break the moment the work gets weird. A layered system bends.

The layers

  1. Core. The Promise and the primary marks. Doesn't change.
  2. System. The operating rules — color palette, typographic scale, motion syntax. Stable. Consistent.
  3. Expression. The outer edge. Illustration, photography, campaign work, layout. Flexible, but governed by the System.

What it gets you

Consistency at the center, freedom at the edges. The core never wobbles, but the work can still surprise. Brittle guidelines collapse on contact with the real world. Layered ones flex.
